    Love your backing track and appreciate that you've shared your long term thoughts. I'm on the fence about picking one up and researching the heck out of the Minotaur rn. It sounds so good, but I worry about it becoming unused after a while due to so many people claiming it's a 'one trick pony'.

      Thanks a lot. We are over 1yr later and I'm still enjoying the Minitaur. My main gripe still stands (limited reach) but I am going to try an octave pedal someday (when I have the budget and time) to overcome that. The lack of tone shape options is somewhat compensated by adding 2 pedals to my setup. One is a cheap TubeMP Studio V3, which I overdrive like mad if I want this crunchy tone (check my last video where you can hear it in action ua-cam.com/video/6rYPBLXq1h4/v-deo.html) The other one is the Deco V2, which can 'also' add a lovely stereo chorus. (and saturation) I'm not trying to convince you into buying one btw. Buy only what you need and often it's not more gear, but more time behind the knobs :) But for the 'one trick pony' part, yes it is, and yes I still use it daily.

    • @filmismorefun
      @filmismorefun 13 годин тому

      @@tricks-and-tips Thx I'll check the new vid out. For that crunchy overdrive sometimes I'll loop in an Ibanez Tube Screamer pedal (rolled back mostly). I'll probably end up grabbing the Minitaur because it just sounds so good, and it's reassuring to know that you still held on to it all this time after questioning whether to sell it or not.

      @@filmismorefun Yeah, anything that modulates the sound is a welcome addition to get more variation out of the Minitaur. But all in all, it's deep sub tones are something special and the reason why I still have it.

And now that I have the Tube MP Studio 3 and Deco V2, I can choose to add some more 'gritt' to it and get more sonic variations out of it. Especially the tube saturation of the Tube MP is absolutely lovely paired with the Minitaur. • @tricks-and-tips

    Great video and wonderful topic. I have a Subsequent 37 and I'm more a singer, guitarist. Was considering a Minitaur because it's easier to use. The S37 is a beast but I need to keep things more simple and practical as I play and record all instruments and no time or tech ability for anything resembling programming...

    • @tricks-and-tips
      @tricks-and-tips 15 днів тому

      Thanks! I think the Subsequent is more easy to use because it has a screen and a keyboard :) So you don't need anything else, maybe a reverb + delay pedal. For live situations I would probably never use the Minitaur because you can't see on what patch it is. (unless you add some midi device that can read out the patch number) And I would still have to drag a midi keyboard around to play it. Maybe (if size is an issue) the Sub25 is a good middle ground. Still the nice 3 oscillator bass sound, but not as heavy and big as the 37 :)

    • @tricks-and-tips
      @tricks-and-tips 16 днів тому

      Thanks a lot. Yeah, the Subsequent is a beast with very big dynamic range and I wish they had added some kind of compensation for that. The only hardware solution I can think off is a compressor. But not every compressor handles the immense frequency range very well (some are bad for bass for example), so my solution is to fix this in post. Which means I record everything multitrack into the DAW where I do my mixing, EQ and compression. I know, some would call it 'cheating', but for me the whole DAWLess idea is about the creative process. Not the production part. So I have a (digital) compressor on my Subsequent 37 track to tame it a little. It's not a 100% perfect solution , because I also use hardware FX pedals and if multiple synths are sent through one pedal, you lose the ability to compress the Subsequent 37 on its own. But it's not about 100% perfection for me, so I don't care. My final 'trick' is to use dynamic EQ in my DAW. So I make sure some tracks are pushing some frequencies down on other (group of) tracks. In my DAW template, I have 4 groups. 1. Drums 2. Bass 3. Music without bass 4. 2 + 3 combined (music without drums) So the drums signal is used to duck frequencies on group 4 and the bass signal is used to duck frequencies on group 3. This way I try to have a full sound while (hopefully) removing too much buildup in certain frequencies. It's not perfect, but works well for me and it combines the power of mixing in the DAW with the fun of creating music with hardware, so I like it like this. Hope that made sense :)

    Nice work! It's really important to keep ideas; the muses might be busy when the idea arrives, but able to sit on your shoulders with it later!

    Another good contender in this category is the UAFX Del-Verb. It does offer most of what I need, and I bought it second hand for € 250. The collider also crossed my mind, but I went for the delverb.

    I love how everyone forgets there's an Audio In in the back of the Minitaur. That means you are one Korg Volca and a MIDI Thru box away from having a 5 oscillator monster with a Moog ladder filter.

      Yeah, Although I will never use it myself, it’s a great option to have in the toolkit. Just wish it was stereo to be able to route my stage piano through it. Oh and wait, an extra drive circuit would make it perfect 🤩

    Good job dude 😊 Do you think I could replace my akai mpc ? I rarely sample just use it as my daw / live performance

    • @tricks-and-tips
      @tricks-and-tips Місяць тому

      Thank you. I bought the MPC Live 2 to see if it could add something to my setup, but I returned it because it had a lot of overlap with the 707 and for what I use it for (live jamming) the 707 is more capable. For producing music, I would go for the MPC without hesitation. But I have my DAW for that. Where the 707 adds the most value (for me) is live jamming. Performing. I just finished another jam and man, it's so much fun, I can't see any other box replacing it anytime soon. So it depends on your need. If you want to produce full tracks : not in a long way, the MPC is much better. If you want to perform / jam : YES, the 707 was made for that!

      Yeah, I thought about that, but my ambition was more than I could chew. I wanted to make an animation, but that proved to be too much work and then I got tired of it and skipped the idea. But I'll keep it in mind for my next video. I might expand the setup a bit more, so there is a good reason to do a follow up :)
